Government/Environmental Civics

Due Fri. 2/15:

(**I am also going to ask you how long your showers are, to the minute, since you timed it!!**)

1 page persuasive essay answering following prompt: What is our responsibility as Tucson electricity and water customers knowing now what we know about the impact coal mining has had on Hopis and Navajos and their lands? (Remember, the second power plant, the Navajo Generating Station, was built entirely to power the Central Arizona Project, which pumps water across the entire state to Phoenix and Tucson.) Do we have a responsibility to learn about it and to become aware of it? Do we have a responsibility to educate others? Do we have a responsibility to be as careful and conscientious about how much power we use and to conserve? Do we have a responsibility to try and do something about it? Such as? Or do we not have a responsibility because we didn't cause the problem in the first place? Should we even care?

Review the article, "Black Mesa Syndrome" if you need material to use in your essay. First brainstorm or free write. Just get your ideas down on paper. Then try to decide what your position on the question is. Then write an outline, with your thesis and the points, in logical order, you need to make to prove your thesis. Each point in your outline becomes a paragraph in your essay.
